Checking In

It’s been a while since I posted, so I thought I would let you guys know what is going on with Nick.

He has had a REALLY great start to the school year.  He has been struggling with a sinus infection for a few weeks, but he is getting better.  We actually went and played tennis last night.

He went to Chapel Hill on Wednesday – his weight and his lung function were down, but we contribute that to the sinus infection.

He has a new special “friend.”  Her name is Ashley and she is good medicine for him.

We are all busy with life…John is working hard, as usual.  After a long, wonderful life of service, his truck passed away and we had to purchase a new car.

Miranda just celebrated her 14th birthday.  She got an electric, acoustic Fender.  It is solid cedar and it is gorgeous!

I started work in my new job as a 7th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at  the middle school I attended.  It is so wonderful to be back where I grew up.  I am actually teaching the children of some of the people I went to school with – and that is hilarious.  You can look at some them coming down the hallway and be able to say, “Hey!  I know exactly who your mama or daddy is.”  🙂

Brian and Heather are doing well also.  Heather has a new job and is LOVING it and it is so hard to believe that Kailey will be a year old in a few days.  She is growing up SO fast.

SO…we are all doing well.  We haven’t fallen off the face of the earth.  I have just been so busy.  I’m going to try to do better.  If you have a Facebook, look me up and friend me.  You can definitely keep up that way.  We are so thankful that Nicholas is well and that everything is going along smoothly.  Thanks for checking in.

Visitor #2

Today we had a visit from an old friend.  Clara comes to visit the kids at UNC Hospital about once a month.  She got to spend time with Nicholas when we were here in April as well.  She is a Burmese Mountain Dog and she is as sweet as she can be.  She LOVES to get on the bed and hang out with Nicholas.  She doesn’t do that very much.  They had to tell Clara it was time to go because she was SO comfortable that she was beginning to dose off.  We love it when she visits and so do all the little kids.  Here are some pictures…

We wonder Who’s Next?????

Our Visitor

We are SO EXCITED!!! We had a visitor at the hospital today.  Jason Michael Carroll came by to visit.  It was awesome.  He has been here since 11 am visiting the kids.  What a wonderful talented guy.  His wife took a picture, printed it out, and Jason signed it for him. Here is the picture I took.

He came to visit Nicholas last year during the North Carolina Children’s Promise Radiothon and we got to see him perform.    He has always been great to the kids here and we are thankful to know him.nicholas and Jason Michael Carroll

What’s Up With Nick

I know it has been a long time since I have been on the blog. I have been trying to to get finished with school and keep our heads above water at the same time.  After 81/2 years of going to school, I finally graduated this past Sunday.  I am thanking God that it is over and that my family didn’t kill me during the process.

Nicholas has been doing about the same as usual.  He has not really been to school consistently since December.  He was home bound for a while, then he was in the hospital and now he is sporadically at home and school.

It’s been very hard for him to go to school.  His stamina is just not where it should be.  Now that my student teaching is over, I have extended my leave of absence so that I can be home with him to help him stay on track with his meds and his treatments, and stay on track with his school work.

I can’t promise that I will be back to blogging full-time, but I will definitely be better about it.  So you can definitely check back periodically to see What’s Up With Nick.

Im in Deep… HELP!!!

Im puttin my faith, brain, and will power together to figure how science as far as the big bang theory and how prehistoric species could exist with humans in the biblical since of creationism and time. Although it will neve happen I just want to know more or if it could be possible. Let me know what you think.

A Special Day

Sixteen years ago, at this very moment, I gave birth to Nicholas Scott Griffin.  He was 8 pounds, 4 ounces, 21 3/4 inches long, he had a little hair and he was just beautiful.  It was a wonderful day and everyday since I have thanked God for giving him to me.  He is growing into a wonderful young man and I am very proud to call myself his mother.

I am so glad we got to come home before today.  He went back to school today and I am guessing he’s having a pretty good day – no news is good news!

Happy Birthday Nicholas!  I love you!

Mama

19 Thousand!!!!

19,000 i cant believe it. When Mama started this blog back on July 2, 2007 we would have never guessed it would have gotten this far. We thought that only a few people would read the blog, but we have gone international. I just want to thank everyone who has read this blog and has passed it on to your friends and family.

A Thought

…Death wrapped itself around me till i was stiffled. It stuck to me. I felt that I could touch it. The idea of dying, of no longer being, began to fascinate me. Not to exsist any longer. Not to feel horrible pains in my foot. Not to feel anything, neither weariness, nor cold, nor anything…

From the novel “Night”

I put that up here for a reason because what he said made me think. I mean he basically just said that if he died right then and there he wouldnt have to worry about anything again. You might know this you may not but this thought has crossed my mind a couple of times, which is more than enough. I mean if you have a disease that you grew up with and your in the hospital at least 3 times a year, does I.V. therapy, does treatments at home, and  some many pills a day you cant count on your fingers and toes, you couldn’t tell me that a thought similar wouldnt come across your mind not one time. So i guess the idea of not going in the hospital anymore, no treatments and knowing that my family would be better off finacially sounds good sometimes. But it’s not worth it to quit and give up, just to make it easier on yourself. like the title says just a thought.

love to all, Nick

I have to admit….

I’m pretty upset its about 7:30 pm and I’m talkin to I think i would consider my best friend online through yahoo messenger. He just told me that he might be moving back to Massachusetts with his dad. Now I’ll say that I’m not the most popular person in school nor do i think I will be. Although I don’t have very many friends I do choose them very carefully and he was one that passed that test pretty easily. We have come to know each other pretty well in the last year and a half and i told him that is just stinks to lose a friend like that. In a way I wish i could just say this aint happening but its a reality I cant fix. I’m between a rock and a hard spot, because i want him to see his dad again but i also don’t want to lose a great friends due to a long distance move. I have know idea what God has in store for me now. But whatever it may be I’ll get through it whether i like it or not.

love to all, nick

“What’s Up With Nick” in the Spotlight

A few weeks ago, a comment was left on the blog by Ashley at izea.com saying that they wanted to feature this blog on their website as the “September blogger with a Cause.”  Of course I agreed and they posted the blog on their site.  It is a great honor for the blog to be spoken of so highly and I am just so humbled by what has been said.

Here is the link.  Check it out and spread the word!

THANKS ASHLEY!!

Role Reversal and Tarheel Football

Saturday, Nicholas had a real treat.  He and John were given tickets to the first UNC football game of the season.  Except for the rain that came later, it was a great day.  They had an awesome time.  (Michael thank you for the tickets and tell whomever gave them to us thank you too).

This also gave Nicholas the chance to VISIT someone in the hospital while he was there.  His great friend, Monica, has cystic fibrosis and she is in the hospital now.  She battles with her lung function like Nicholas.  So they dropped by for some fun with her and the nurses.

Here are some pics from the day…

Meet Logan, The Sky Angel Cowboy

A very dear friend of mine sent me a video this morning.  It has really touched my heart and I want to share it with you.  The one she sent me is longer because this child was featured on television and radio around the country, but because it was over five minutes, I found a clip with just the conversation.

What you are about to hear is a little boy in Texas calling in to his favorite radio station.  This boy is truly wise beyond his years.  If you would like to hear the longer verson, click here.  Thank you Beth!  Love you!

Friday the 13th

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY DADDY!!!

Everybody always talks about how Friday the 13th is such an unlucky day, but my daddy (Douglas) was born on Friday the 13th and has always had pretty good luck on this day.  Join me in wishing him a very happy birthday.  I know he is at work – he never takes off a day of work unless he is near death sick.  So if you’d like to, feel free to leave a comment and/or birthday wish here for him to read for today

Happy Birthday Daddy.  I love you!

Gotta Brag on My Girl!!

Today Miranda’s school held their 7th grade awards ceremony.  I missed being able to go, but my mama went in my place.  Miranda received 2 awards.  The first award was for being chosen as a member of the National Junior Beta Club and the second was for the Highest Average in Math.  For those of you who may not know Miranda as a student, that is quite an accomplishment.  She has never really like math – I guess because she has always struggled.  This year she was blessed with a REALLY strong math teacher and she really began to excel.  I am very proud of her!!  She has most definitely had her ups and downs this year, but she came out smelling like roses.

CONGRATULATIONS MIRANDA!!  You deserve it!!!  Love you!!

New Blog

OK, I’m sure some people are going to call me crazy.  BUT, yes, I have started yet ANOTHER blog.  Sometimes there are things that I want to post that are alright to put on What’s Up with Nick, but some times they are not.  I wanted to have a place of my own that I could talk about whatever that wouldn’t interfere with the purpose of Nick’s blog.  SO here we go.  Visit if you like… http://robingriffin.wordpress.com
